Schull Blueway Kayaking Festival

SCHULL BLUEWAY KAYAKING FESTIVAL

The inaugural Schull Blueway Kayaking Festival takes place on the weekend of 8-10 July 2016 in the beautiful fishing village of Schull, West Cork, along the Wild Atlantic Way. The festival offers a combination of an adventure kayaking challenge for experienced kayakers, taster sessions for beginners and children, and an exciting family island kayak trip and BBQ on Sunday 10th July. Wicklow Co Co Rivers Seminar July 16th

County Wicklow Public Participation Network is holding a seminar on the 16th July 2016, from 10am to 1pm in Ashford Community Centre. The seminar will look at how communities could protect our natural waterways and surrounding areas e.g. rivers and river banks, beaches etc for the ecological and recreational benefit for this and future generations.

Canoeing Ireland are recruiting for a memberships officer to join the Canoeing Ireland team in Head office at the Irish Sports HQ in Blanchardstown.

Canoeing Ireland (CI) is responsible for promoting, encouraging and advancing the sport of Canoeing at all levels throughout Ireland. This is done through providing membership benefits such as insurance, running courses, official events/races, encouraging and developing Instructors, coaches and promoting the sport to all levels of ability – from the beginner to our Olympians.

Review of Canoeing Ireland processes towards Courses & Logbooks

We have been reviewing processes here in Canoeing Ireland with regards skills and instructor courses.

Below are the results of that review process:

  • Assessment candidates must submit a satisfactory logbook prior to the office accepting assessment application forms.  Logbooks must be submitted a minimum of two weeks prior to assessment dates.
  • Logbooks should contain everything on the checklist in your logbook. Do not send originals with your logbook. It is your responsibility to send in a complete logbook.
  • If the logbook does not meet requirements to be passed, the logbook will be sent back to the person with a letter explain what was missing.
  • CI will endeavor to set fixed dates at least 3 months in advance for all courses to allow candidates to arrange their schedule around the dates.  Any courses which do not receive any applications within 1 month of course date will be cancelled, any courses which do not have the minimum number of applications within 2 weeks of course date will be cancelled.

National Water Safety Awareness week.

Irish Water Safety:

National Water Safety Awareness Week will run from Monday June 20th to Sunday June 26th.

Canoeing Ireland are one of the Partners involved in www.safetyzone.ie which provides details of where you can get training for a range of aquatic activities nationwide including swimming, surfing, sailing, rowing, canoeing, kayaking, diving, boating, angling, snorkelling – the list goes on.

Tuesday 16th June 2015, Dublin: As an average of 11 people drown in Ireland every month, an appeal as part of Water Safety Awareness Week to promote learning from registered training providers BEFORE engaging in aquatic pursuits.  Various national bodies have combined forces to provide course details from a single website - www.safetyzone.ie - as the best way to enjoy Irish waters safely. See your Irish paddling film on the big screen!

This is an paddling film event specifically for the Irish paddling community. Sea kayaker’s,freestylers, creekers, surf-kayakers, wave-skiers, open boaters, weekend warriors. We want you to submit your paddling film.

It doesn’t have to be pretty. It just needs to tell a story.

Films should be between 3 – 10 mins.

Prizes on the day for film category winners.
