These workshops will focus on Observation and Feedback techniques as well as a comprehensive overview of the changes to the Instructor awards which have taken place in the last year and what is expected at training and assessment level.
Updated tutor resources will also be distributed to those attending. On the day we also aim to have an open discussion on possible future changes to the level 1 & 2 instructor courses. Your input and experience is essential as you will be the tutors on the ground delivering the awards. All current tutors should attend.
In order to maintain best practice in the delivery of the skills awards the Training and Development Unit are running a series of CPD events for trainee and qualified instructors.
This Level 4 Skills Assessment CPD workshop is open to all Level 4 Kayak trainee and qualified Instructors wishing to improve their delivery of the Level 4 skills assessment. This workshop will focus on the practical elements of assessing the Level 4 Kayak skills and will involve demonstrations of how the various elements of the assessment can be delivered. You will need to bring all of your usual paddling gear, including boat and paddle and expect to get wet!
The Level 4 syllabus can be found on the Canoeing Ireland Awards and Qualifications Page at www.canoe.ie.
On September 12th 2014 Canoeing Ireland’s TDU will launch the new Stand Up Paddle Board awards.
To do this they will run a one day assimilation course for any qualified kayak or canoe instructor who has a personal skills standard they feel meets the new Level 2 Paddle Boarding skills award, has unrestricted access to Board and Paddle, has a valid first aid certificate, is over 18 years of age and is a currently registered member of Canoeing Ireland TDU.

In preparation for the 2014 AGM some of you may have noticed that the constitution has not been posted on the website, i wish to rectify this in this post and also to explain the reason for the delay.
At the 2013 AGM an amended version of the constitution was to be voted on, this did not occur due to time constraints. There was not action in the minuets, that this would be carried forward to the 2014 agm. In the approach to the 2014 AGM, the committee reviewed the 2013 version of the constitution and were amending it further to reflect the changes that have happened to the TDU in the last year. While in the process of this we were contacted by the board of Canoeing Ireland who wished to include some alterations in order to bring a more standardised format to the constitutions of the sub committees of CI.
These changes and amendments were not able to be completed in time i.e. to have the proposed new constitution up 21 day before the AGM.
So we now find ourselves in a situation where we will operate using the amended version of the 2006 constitution which as far as the current committee knows is the most recent Constitution that has been passed by a TDU AGM. This is the constitution that we will be using for the 2014 agm. The new updated constitution will now be put forward for voting at the 2015 AGM
Apologies for any inconvenience caused this was not our intention
