The Irish Canoe Union is the National Governing Body for Canoeing in Ireland.
The Canoe Union administers an Awards & Qualification Scheme to qualify instructors and encourage safe practice in canoeing. Training courses are run around the country and from the ICU Liffey Training Centre in Dublin. Your membership fee helps fund the ongoing development and delivery of these important awards.
Information / Advice
All members can avail of information and advice from the Canoe Union Office where a member of staff will always be willing to take your call. In addition, members can avail of the range of literature produced by the Canoe Union. For example, the 2006 'Safety Through Training' leaflet.
The Canoe Union funds specialist committees to administer each competitive canoeing discipline. These committees organise events, promote participation in their discipline and select teams for international competiton. Insurance cover is also provided at certain events for ICU members.
All ICU Registered Members are covered by a comprehenisve Third Party Liability Insurance Policy. There is also a Personal Accident Policy which can be upgraded to provide additional benefits and equipment cover. Details of all ICU Insurance Policies are available here.
National & International Representation
The Canoe Union represents Irish canoeists in national, government and international organisations and committees such as Waterways Ireland, the Marine Safety Working Group, International Canoe Federation and European Canoeing Federation.
ICU members can avail of a 10% discount on canoeing equipment (excluding boats) from the Great Outdoors Dublin.
