Here’s a reminder about an excellent weekend of safety training coming up soon, if you’re not involved already now’s your chance!
On the 5th and 6th of April an entire weekend will be devoted to safety and rescue training and as many as 300 paddlers from clubs all over the country are expected to attend. To make it work more volunteer instructors and trainee instructors are needed, so read the email below and sign yourself up if you’d like to be a part of it!

Hi Everyone,

I’m just sending an email to remind some of you and inform others about the upcoming Club Champs RSR workshop. In short we need your help to support a really great initiative which has had all of the clubs around the country buzzing with enthusiasm for canoeing.

As you may already know the Canoeing Ireland Club Championships is on the 12th & 13th of April 2014 and is shaping up to be a super event. You may also be aware that as part of the Club Champs Canoeing Ireland are running a series of training weekends almost every weekend up until the event, with the last weekend before the champs, the 5th and 6th April, being an RSR training weekend for the clubs.

We are expecting over 200 participants at the weekend possible as many as 300! What an achievement that would be; 300 paddlers from canoe clubs around the country all up skilling their River Safety and Rescue Skills in one weekend! As you can imagine in order to run an RSR training course on this scale we are going to need some help. We expect that we will need approximately 25-30 instructors to help run this event. We already have close to 10 instructors and 15 trainees signed up to help out so we’re nearly half way there. If you can spare the time we, and the participants, would greatly appreciate your help.

We are asking instructors to come give us a helping hand to run this great initiative, in return the TDU will pay for accommodation and dinner on the Saturday night. There will be a great opportunity for networking between Instructors, Clubs and Participants with so many paddlers from 20 clubs nationally, all in Kilkenny for the weekend.

This is a great opportunity for the TDU and the instructors of Canoeing Ireland to give something back to the sport and also get something done that can be of greater long term benefit to the sport. All we need is for people to come together and give us a dig out on the 5th and 6th of April.

If you are interested in helping out please send an email to clubchampsrsr@tdu.ie to register your support. Please include your name, email address, phone number and level of instructorship you have. This is also open to trainee instructors who can come along to help deliver the RSR courses which will count towards logging hours and meeting instructor assessment pre-requirements.

We are really look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Benny Cullen
