Christmas Message from the Board

On behalf of the Board of Canoeing Ireland, we would like to take this opportunity to wish our members, clubs, paddlers, volunteers, athletes, coaches, staff and stakeholders a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

As another busy year comes to a close, we can look back and be proud of all our achievements in 2018.

It has been a strong year of positive change with good progress made in delivering our ambitious strategic plan, implementing additional resources and seeing a continued growth in members and clubs. We especially thank Paddy Boyd whose leadership has helped transform Canoeing Ireland during his tenure as Interim CEO and we wish him all the success as he moves to new ventures. We welcome Moira Aston as the new CEO and the Board look forward to working with her in this challenging and exciting role.

2018 has been a year of asking and listening to what the paddling community want and understanding how best we as a National Governing Body can address these requirements. Communicating and consultations with our members is a priority and the Clubs and Members regional workshops held throughout the year have provided valuable insights, which are now being actioned.  Furthermore, three editions of Flowstate were published and showcase the best of what our sport is about.

We would like to congratulate all our athletes who have competed so well in all disciplines throughout the World and in particular, to those who have supported and assisted them to their success. This year has seen exceptional performances and results at International level.

As a community, we have made good progress and continue to develop for the better. 2019 will bring new challenges, but equally new possibilities.  The Board look forward to embracing these opportunities in a year that will see the 60th anniversary of the Liffey Descent.

Very best wishes for the festive season, enjoy the water and safe paddling.
