Jenny Egan qualified for  K1 200m  at the European Games in Minsk on Wednesday (June 26) when she finished 7th in the semi-finals in 43.427 secs, knocking one a second over her time in th heats earlier in the day.

“I’m really happy to make the B Final in the K1 200m, it’s a big improvement from a few weeks ago at the World Cups. It was a good race, it was quite windy out there, quite a side wind so you had to adjust your technique to cope with the conditions. But I’m happy with it and through to the B Final of the 200 tomorrow, ”  said Egan after her race.

Ronan Foley  missed out on qualifying for the men’s K1 B final by a second when he finished eighth in his heat with a personal best time of 38.413 secs. The 19-year-old Kildare paddlers is one of the youngest athletes on the Irish team.

“200m isn’t really my distance it’s more of an explosive type distance for the stronger guys out here. I’m more of an endurance guy so I prefer the 1000m. But it was good to get out there and get the experience and do my best, ” he said. Foley goes in the K1 5000m tomorrow.
