Canoeing Ireland are delighted to report on our membership statistics and growth from 2018-2019. Absolutely outstanding was the growth in our total membership of 25%, from 3,488 in 2018 to 4,718 in 2019. We also saw what is hopefully the beginning of a strong trend with a 2% increase in the female membership, and with the excellent work going into encouraging women in paddlesports on the Bridge the Gap programme this is surely only a sign of great things to come for diversity in our membership and sport.

We also are happy to see a rise to 91% of the membership being a club member of one of the great clubs around the country, with our sport having an outstanding social side it is great to see this reflected in the membership statistics.

This thriving club scene is also shown in the phenomenal growth some of our clubs saw across the last year, with East Coast Sea Kayaking Club, Kilcullen Canoe Club and Laois Kayak & Canoe Club all seeing an over 80% rise in their membership numbers in only a year.

Canoeing Ireland would like to thank all the clubs and organisations across paddlesports who made this progress possible, providing brilliant paddling communities around the country. We hope to keeping pushing on and leading the charge to an even better 2020.
