In advance of the upcoming return phases issued by the Government of Ireland, Canoeing Ireland would like to offer guidance to our members and clubs on what each of these phases means for paddlesports. And to remind our member that these phases are being implemented as a result of people’s compliance with the current public health measure and will only work with peoples continued cooperation with Government restrictions.
We are happy to advise our members that paddlesports have been included in the outdoor sports permitted to return to low levels of activity in the Phase 1 return (18th of May). In order to ensure paddlesports demonstrate a safe and responsible return to activity Canoeing Ireland have produced a ‘Return to Paddling’ document of guidelines and advice for our members, clubs and stakeholders to ensure any increase in activity in line with the phased returns is done so with minimal risk to public health. This document will be reviewed regularly as we progress through the phases and further updates are issued by the Government. We would also like to thank Sport Ireland for their help in producing this document.

It is important to remember activity is only permitted where the existing public health guidelines can be adhered to –

  • No travel beyond 5km from home
  • Strict social distancing
  • Groups of 4 or less
  • Strict hygiene around equipment

If you have any further question around a return to activity or require further guidance around specific requirement for a return to any paddlesport activity please contact Canoeing Ireland.

We would like to congratulate and thank our members on their compliance with the restrictions so far, and look forward to seeing them all back out on the river in the future.
